A Google Sitemap is a file which contains URLs and some additional information about all public pages of a website. Google introduced it in 2005. So it is called as “Google Sitemaps“. A Sitemap helps Google to index and crawl your page better. Other major search engines like Ask.com, YAHOO and MSN Search also supports Google Sitemap. So, for a blog, Google Sitemap is important from a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) point of view.

If your are using WordPress, you can use a plugin to generate “Google Sitemap”. There are many of them. But I would like to talk about one, called as “Google XML Sitemaps Generator for WordPress“. This plugin will automatically generate a XML-Sitemap of your WordPress blog. It is very easy to use and you don’t require any knowledge of PHP. The plugin will update your sitemap, every time you create or edit a blog post. It will also notify all the major search engines about the update.

 

How to use Google XML Sitemaps Generator for WordPress?

  • Download the Plugin.
  • Extract and upload it to wp-content/plugins/ directory.
  • Activate it from the ‘Plugins’ section in your Admin Panel.
  • After activation, you can see a new “Sitemap” menu in “Options”. You can control your Sitemap settings from that menu.
  • Click on “Rebuild Sitemap” to create your Sitemap for the first time.
