Last week, popular blogging platform Blogger implemented the new Import and Export features in all of it’s blogs. With these features, you will be able to create copies of your own blogs as well as import them into other existing blogs. Until now the import and export features were available only for the Blogger in Draft users. So, if you are a Blogger.com user, you will definitely find them interesting.

Import/Export features in Blogger
What you can do with these new features? With the import and export features, you can easily perform a number of interesting tasks like merging of two or more blogs into one, moving posts from blog to blog, exporting blog to a different platform and even creating back up copies of a blog. So, the import and export features on Blogger will offer you a whole new range of portability and freedom in managing your content.
Well, currently the import feature only supports importing of Blogger blogs. It means that you can import a blog from WordPress, LiveJournal, Typepad or any other blogging platforms. I am sure that this limitation will upset some of you. Still, you find a reason to rejoice, as you have the export feature that you can use to keep a back up copy of your blog on your hard drive. Regarding importing a blog to WordPress, we already have a cool and powerful import feature in WordPress and I love it

I see it as a good thing. Blogger is growing from strength to strength. I have been using Blogger for a couple of years now and I was very tempted to move to Wordpress (which I still may do) but so far, I am pretty happy with their service. They do all that I need them to do (well, most of the things I need done).
Isnt it amazing how so many features are now available to bloggers. What blogger is offering is indeed very useful. But even other features like unlimited photo upload, video upload, the huge variety of widgets, etc. are amazing.
I cant think of any other features that I would want. But ofcourse I gleefully lap up everything they come up with
I myself am new to blogging, and would be delighted if someone could help me. I see that blogger now has a new import export tool. If I have understood correctly, this will only function within blogger itself. My problem is that I need to transfer pages either from word 97, or from open office writer. This includes drawings. ( technical ) How can I do this. Or must I trnsfer my blog to wordpress?
Bill
You want to publish those pages on a blog? If yes, I think you’ll have to publish them manually, as Blogger import/export features are meant for blogs only. If you want a blog on Blogger, just open an account, get a subdomain (you can use your own domain also) and start posting your pages and drawings. If you have a lot of pages, you can use “Windows Live Writer” or a similar desktop blog publishing client.
Thanks earnblogger. I now have open office which together with sun weblog publisher allows the direct sending of pages from writer to your blog. The problem is, that the program must be installed through the extensions manager, which asks me to log on with user name and password. If only I knew which name and pass I am being asked for. Have to send them an email and ask. Having moved to germany for a while, I have a new email account now so I can’t get into my blog anyway. And trying to get help from google is like trying to get blood out of a stone. Bad service they have. I may move on to wordpress, the few quid will be worth it ( I hope ) No firm seems to offer the customer care that we used to get, not even canon who I used like.
Anyway thank for your help.
Bill
Willie,
Thanks for leaving your comment here. I am not familiar with Sun weblog publisher. So, I can’t tell what exactly they want. But looking at the official SWP page, I can guess that it asks you for a OpenOffice.org username and password, which you can get for free by filling an online form. Try that combination. If it fails, I afraid I will be able to help you. All the best.
