Recently I came to know about a new service called Posterous, which allows anyone to post anything online using email. It supports photos, MP3’s, documents and video links. In simple words, Posterous is a free blogging platform that will enable you to update your blog via email with complete media attachments.

The interesting point is that, you don’t have to create an account to post something! Just email anything you want to post to post@posterous.com. Your subject line will be the title of your post. You can add text, photos, mp3 files and documents to the body of the email. These will appear as content of your blog post. After sending the email, you will receive an email from Posterous with a link to your new blog with your first blog post. Simple!

But signing up for an account with Posterous will help you in managing your blog posts and subscriptions. You will get your Posterous site in yourname.posterous.com format. Right now, Posterous is a free service and you will get up to 1 GB of space for personal use. Posterous supports GMail, Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL or any other mail program.

If you attach one photo with your email, they will resize it to a web-friendly size and post it to your blog. But, when you attach more than one photo in the same message, they will automatically create a good looking image gallery and post it to your blog.

When you attach a mp3 file with your message, Posterous will drop the music file into a web MP3 player. This will enable your readers to listen to it right from their browser. Posterous converts any URLs on your message into links. To post a video, just paste the URL of the video and it will automatically embed the video on your new post. Right now, Posterous can automatically embed players for the following video sharing sites: YouTube, Google Video, Justin.TV, Vimeo and Omnisio.
